Monitor arms lift your screen away from its original base, giving you more usable space for your keyboard, notebook and other kit. They also let you move the display higher, lower, closer or further away.
Before buying, check the monitor’s weight without its stand and compare it with the arm’s stated load range. Screen size alone isn’t enough. You should also check the VESA pattern on the rear of the display, with 75 x 75mm and 100 x 100mm among the common sizes.
A monitor arm desk mount usually fixes with a clamp around the desk edge or a grommet fitting through a suitable hole. Measure the desktop thickness and check for drawers, rails or cable trays underneath before ordering.
The clamp needs enough clear space to grip the surface. Some arms support both mounting methods, but the permitted desk thickness varies by product, so check the individual specification rather than assuming it’ll fit.
A monitor mount arm can support one display, two displays or, on selected designs, a laptop alongside a monitor. A dual model keeps two screens on one mounting point and can create a neat setup. Two separate single arms may give you more freedom if your screens differ in size, height or orientation. Whichever layout you choose, leave enough space behind the desk for the arms to move, especially if the desk sits close to a wall.
