Monitor and laptop arms: Access without the clutter

A dual monitor and laptop arm style setup can turn a laptop into a useful second screen while freeing the desk below. Before buying, check the monitor’s VESA pattern, screen weight and the size of the laptop tray. The electriQ model shown supports 75 x 75mm and 100 x 100mm VESA fittings, monitors up to 32 inches and a maximum screen weight of 9kg. Keeping both devices raised can also make it easier to arrange your keyboard and mouse underneath.

Check the desk fixing before you buy

A monitor arm and laptop stand need a secure fixing point. The model shown can be clamped to a desk from 10 to 85mm thick or fitted through a grommet on desks from 10 to 40mm thick. Check the rear edge of your desk for drawers, support bars and cable trays before ordering. You’ll also need enough room behind the desk for the arms and cables to move without hitting the wall.

Set both screens at a useful viewing height

Once fitted, a monitor and laptop mount lets you move each screen into a more practical position. The main monitor can sit in front of you, while the laptop works well to one side for email, calls, notes or reference pages. Leave some cable slack so the arms can move freely, and keep the laptop’s air vents clear. A separate keyboard and mouse can also make longer sessions more comfortable when the laptop is raised.

Frequently Asked Questions

It can be useful if you work with one monitor and an open laptop at the same time. Raising both devices clears space underneath and keeps the screens closer to the same viewing height. It can also make a small desk feel less cramped. The main checks are monitor weight, laptop size, desk strength and how much movement you need.
Check the monitor’s VESA pattern, screen size and weight without its original stand. The electriQ model on this page supports 75 x 75mm and 100 x 100mm VESA mounting, screens from 17 to 32 inches and up to 9kg. Don’t rely on screen size alone, as two monitors of the same size can weigh very different amounts.
That depends on how you work. A laptop tray makes sense when you want to keep using the laptop screen beside one external display. If you use two full-size monitors instead, browse our dual monitor arms. For one external screen without a laptop tray, our single monitor arms may be a simpler fit.
Yes, if the desk can safely take the clamp or grommet fitting. Check the mount stays secure as the desk moves and leave enough slack in the power and display cables. It’s also worth checking for wobble after changing desk height, as this is a common concern with moving desks.
Cables, adapters and cable management products can help keep the area around the mount cleaner. Browse our monitor accessories for useful extras to connect and organise your setup.
