Questions & Answers

10/05/2007 deano: does this have wireless internet connection

Easycom: Yes it does

10/05/2007 peter russell: I see that your contributor "confused!!" asks the difference between the S/W and the N/W models. But I've also seen listed an M/W and an F/W model. Are there any significant differences between them and are all versions still available?

Easycom: availablility changes on a daily basis, but as long as stock is not showing 2-7 days then it is available immediately. The only differences are in the internal components (CPU, RAM etc), and the Operating System.

07/05/2007 confused!!: Which is the best / fastest:
Sony Vaio N21S/W Laptop - VGN-N21S/W
Sony Vaio N21E/W Laptop

As Duo 2 Processor in one not as fast as older duo processor in the other??

Easycom: The VGN-N21S/W is the faster notebook.

04/05/2007 Lucy: Does this have a firewire socket for transferring home videos onto the laptop and does it come with any software for basic editing?

Easycom: The laptop has a four pin Firewire port.

04/05/2007 ladyofmoore: im buying a laptop having limited knowlege could you tell me compared to compaq 54263 the reason i would be better with this sony model

Easycom: Sony laptops offer a greater build quality and excellent customer service and support.

03/05/2007 Woo: Reading back you say that playing games on this model would not play them so well - can I rectify this easily? Also I am the worlds worst IT person so laymans chat pleeeease!!

Easycom: No, you cant upgrade the graphics card in a laptop, you would need a machine that comes with dedicated graphics (not integrated / shared). Why not give our sales line a call? They will find you the best machine to suit your requirements.

28/04/2007 helen: Hi, I would love to by this one, but is it enough good to watch movies on it? I like to buy a laptop which is good for watching dvds on it and has good display monitor for it...

Easycom: Yes, the Sony's have a very good screen, this would be perfect for watching movies on.

27/04/2007 stillsearching: Which is best: Sony or HP? I notice the Sony's do not have the direct play function for CDs/DVDs. Had an Acer but DVD drive broke. Toshiba's seem too expensive for what you get. A sales chappie in Comet recommended Sony whilst another in a competitor recommended HP!! Thanks

Easycom: Sony's look the best, but HP and Lenovo are very reliable. We'd also recommend Asus and Samsung.

23/04/2007 jonny: I am interested in this model and one that you also sold (now sold out/discontinued) the sony n11s. Could you explain why this newer model N21 is so much cheaper than the older N11s (here and other retailers)

Easycom: The N11 came out a while ago, the N21 is a new model with a new price!

20/04/2007 pink: can i watch digitalor analogue tv on the laptop and do i need to buy seperate software for this

Easycom: You would need one of these.

18/04/2007 Giri: Can i connect wireless mouse to the laptop?
because it has only 2 usb ports. Do i need additional software to be installed in laptop? Does it provide inbuilt bluetooth support?

Easycom: Sorry there is no Bluetooth built in but you could by a wireless mouse and keyboard and plug it into one of the usb sockets.

17/04/2007 giri: Does this product has shared memory or didicated memory for graphics support?

Easycom: Shared graphics on the notebook so its good for home work and surfing the web but not so good for playing games.

14/04/2007 muso-on-the-move: Two questions, please:
1 - is it possible to install a MIDI interface on this PC; if so what would the extra cost be?; and
2 - would the soundcard meet the specifications required to run CuBase?

Easycom: Its not possible to install a midi interface into the notebook so you would have to use an external interface perhaps a USB midisport. The sound card will meet the basic specification requirement for Cubase.

12/04/2007 Neverhadalaptop.: Will this laptop pick up e-mails and the internet in a wifi area? Can it be connected to a phone line if there is no wifi? Is there a cable supplied to do this? Can it support a wireless mouse? Have never used vista, would i be better to get XP installed. Will there be any difficulty transferring data between Vista and XP. Will it burn CDs. Will it connect to a LAN in an office?

Easycom: Will this laptop pick up e-mails and the internet in a wifi area? YES.
Can it be connected to a phone line if there is no wifi? YES (or a network).
Is there a cable supplied to do this? Most laptops do include a modem cable.
Can it support a wireless mouse? YES.
Have never used vista, would i be better to get XP installed? They are similar, once you have switched you might as well stick with Vista.
Will there be any difficulty transferring data between Vista and XP? There shouldnt be.
Will it burn CDs? YES.
Will it connect to a LAN in an office? YES.

12/04/2007 chris: would this be appropriate for games eg. football manager? would the sound be too fast for the screen?

Easycom: Football manager should run, but most games require a powerful graphics card and would not run well, if at all, on this one.

09/04/2007 Caleb: Does this product support the new feature of Vista, such as the Windows Aero Interface?

Easycom: The laptop comes with Vista Premium installed as default though the Aero interface may cause the machine to slow down in use.

05/04/2007 Gareth: Is it possible to get this laptop downgraded to Windows XP instead of Vista?

Easycom: No, it is pre-installed with Vista. If you have a separate copy of XP you could put that on there yourself, or even use a dual boot system and have both.

05/04/2007 Joe: Would this laptop work for video editing and photo editing? Are the shared graphics going to work for editing or do i need something more powerfull

Easycom: Photo editing will be fine, video editing should be fine as well but performance would probably be lower than it would with a dedicated graphics card. It is more the Games and 3D stuff that requires powerful graphics. Thanks.

05/04/2007 riya: hi do vista support the xp os?

Easycom: Vista is a replacement for XP, so you can only have one of them running at once! Thanks

03/04/2007 Bill: Hi would this support Russian type with keyboard overlay and internet telephone?

Easycom: All our stock is UK localized stock which comes with UK keyboards, power supplies and meet all appropriate standards. As a consequence of this we can not make any claims of compatibility with non UK/EU languages.

03/04/2007 nathan morris: i was going to buy this product,, than i relised that the price just went up by £30, before it was £639.97 NOW IT IS £669.97. why is this?

Easycom: Prices are constantly changing and unfortunately the price can rise as well as fall.

02/04/2007 Keef: Could I rig this to an external screen and or fullsize keyboard and mouse to allow full time desktop working?

Easycom: Yes, as long as the Mouse and Keyboard were USB devices.

29/03/2007 ash: how would this laptop stand up in the futrure market?

Easycom: Put 2GB of RAM in it and it will be good for a long while yet :-)

29/03/2007 serious buyer: hi
can u please explain me what is the difference in shared, integrated and dedicated graphic card?

Easycom: Shared and integrated are the same thing, The motherboard chipset uses system RAM to process the graphics. Dedicated graphics is a seperate chip (nVidia or ATI) which uses its own memory and is much more powerful than integrated graphics. This is what you need to play most current generation games, older games may be able to run with integrated graphics. Hope that helps :)

28/03/2007 leanne: what is the colour , is it white or silver ? can't tell from the pic thanks

Easycom: This is white - it looks really nice, like a Macbook Pro.

19/03/2007 Mariano: thank you!!very much!!!!

19/03/2007 Mariano: how many USB ports have this pc?

Easycom: It only has 2 built in USB ports, so a portable USB Hub such as PA055E would be very useful with this.

19/03/2007 James: how old is this model

Easycom: The Vaio N2 is currently the latest generation of the N series, which means it hasn't been around very long at all. This particular one first appeared on our site at the end of January and has since been reduced by £60!
