I would suggest going for a model with either Windows XP or Windows 7 as this has the Linux operating system as well as a very small hardrive which would not be suitable to meet your needs. look for netbooks with at least 160gb hardrives.

The acer one has wifi for connecting to a wireless router, but you don't need pre paid credit for that. The dongle will work with the laptop but you'll need to download drivers from acers website so it will work with the linux operating system.

Yes you can install xp but not vista, it would kill the machine. And as this is a netbook, there is no dvd or cd player included to keep the price and weight down. You can buy one as an accessory. though which will hook up via usb.
