This 3.5" Western Digital 4TB SATA Drive is the industries highest capacity nearline drive. It delivers 6 Gb/s transfer rates, with a sustained sequential data rate of up to 171 MB/s along with high random I/O rates. With a field-tested 1.2 million hour MTBF, this high performance drive delivers the highest level of reliability for 24x7 operation in up to 100% duty cycle applications. It has a dual processor, allowing twice the processing power to maximize performance. In addition is a head positioning system equipped with two actuators, allowing positional accuracy is improved over the data track(s). The primary actuator is able to provide coarse displacement, using conventional electromagnetic actuator principles; while the secondary actuator then uses piezoelectric motion to then fine tune the head positioning to a higher degree of accuracy. With this drive comes a significant performance improvement in high vibration environments. This is achieved by enhanced RAFF technology that includes sophisticated electronics that monitor the drive and are able to correct both linear and rotational vibration in real time. On top of that, the motor shaft is secured at both ends, reducing the system-induced vibration and stabilizes platters for accurate tracking during read and writes operations. In an effort to protect data, the multi-axis shock sensor automatically detects shock events and compensates for them. This drive also has RAID-specific time limited error recovery (TLER) that prevents drive fallout that is caused by the extended hard drive error-recovery process, common to desktop drives.
