You would need to replace it with the same speed ram, even if you are changing both sticks.

The most noticeable increase in performance with Windows Vista comes from having 2GB of memory. I would suggest you buy two of the 1GB memory modules and install them both. Alternatively you can buy one 2GB module to leave room for a later upgrade to 4GB.

That memory will be fine - Be aware that if the current memory (512mb) is slower than the new module, the new module will only run as fast as the slower 512mb one. To avoid this, you can remove the 512mb module completely.
