SteveF: It means that the graphics card has 256mb of dedicated memory but can draw from system resources up to a total of 1530mb should you need it.

1-Oct-2008 AH: What about the problems Sony has had with Vaio Laptops overheating due to a battery an wiring problem and the subsequent recall? Is this the case with this Laptop as well? Also, is a downgrade to Windows XP possible for this Laptop? Thanks

SteveF: Sorry, no info on the overheating, you'll need to contact sony on that one. The OS that comes with this laptop is Vista home premium which we can't downgrade but once again Sony maybe able to help you with that one.

Matt: I think you're getting the technologies mixed up, The Core 2 Duo and Pentium Dual Core are two types of processor that both use Centrino 2 Processor Technology. This machine has the Core 2 Duo processor which is the better one.

SteveF: It will be able to play COD4 but laptop graphics cards as not as good as there desktop counterparts so you may not be able to run it smoothly at top spec.

SteveF: The T8400 is a more recent processor and supports Centrino 2 so I would say that one although you may be best going on some forums to get other opinions.

Matt: This card has similar 3D Mark scores as the Geforce 6800 Ultra. It should play most things without difficulty but still a long way off the very latest top end graphics cards.

Matt: You can buy a second battery and swap them over.

SteveF: No, it means that unlike a desktop, the internal components are not upgradable and are in effect sealed in, unlike a plug and play card which you can swap around. If an internal component breaks then I'd get it looked at first before throwing it away.

Matt: It comes with 32 bit operating system, but is also capable of running 64 bit as well.

SteveF: Yes it is.

2-Dec-2008 Steph: The widescreen is a good idea for watching films, but when playing games does the screen adapt or are there black lines on either side of the usable area? Would you recomend this or the toshiba a300-15b as a part-time gaming laptop?

SteveF: The screen has an aspect ratio of 16:9 so it will show the full picture with no lines unless the film you're watching has a lower ratio which can happen. Both of those are good part time gaming laptops.

10-Dec-2008 Steven: Will the laptop's power supply run in both the UK and the US (with a plug adapter)? If not what would I need to get to get the power supply to work?

Matt: It will run with just a travel adapter as the AC adapter will detect the voltage and do the rest automatically.

Easycom: Although this model doesn't come with a blueray drive, laptops which do have the facility to play the discs also have DVD and CD re-writers included.
