it is and advantages would be that the machine will run at its full potencial but at present there isn't anything really that will utilize a system with 8gb other than servers

Yes it is a fast machine, upgrading to 8GB ram is only really needed if you are using it for 3d graphics, audio processing or video editing, all of which take a lot of power and ram.

The notebook mini and this model are very different machines. This is a fully fledged 15.4" laptop that can handle any day to day tasks and has a optical drive. The mini is a netbook and is used for internet on the move and has no optical drive.

Not really. Its a integrated graphics card which means it needs system resources to run graphical applications. You'll need a laptop with a dedicated graphics card of at least 256mb.

not much, you can either order a recovery DVD with the laptop from us or make one yourself when you first boot up.
