OpenOffice (built in) provides Word, Excel and PowerPoint compatible equivalents.

Easycom: It can read excel and word documents, you should be able to use a USB 3G modem as long as you can get the right drivers for it.

Easycom: The laptop does have USB ports, but it is down to the manufacturer of the external devices to write official linux drivers for their devices. If you can not find a drive with official linux drivers, you may be able to find some open source linux drivers for an external CD/DVD drive online.

Easycom: Yes you can replace that with a 1GB module. Ignore the 'this will void your warranty' sticker on the RAM cover - Asus changed their mind and DIY RAM upgrades will no longer void your warranty.

Easycom: No, the Celeron processors can only run 32-bit Windows.

Easycom: The linux EEE PC is XP compatible, but you need a compatible external USB optical drive in order to install it.

What other programmes in regards to word, for writing, etc, does this have or can have installed? How do you install if this does not have a cd/dvd drive? Thanks!!!

Easycom: Have a look at the feedback from Al. There is OpenOffice built in with Microsoft equivalent programs

Easycom: A standard XP installation needs around 3 to 5gb.

23-Nov-2007 dinesh: just got this laptop from your company great customer service but had to return it because it is linux os it can not work say i have another laptop on windows but can only connect one or other wirelessly because encryption is diffrent to windows spoke tgo my isp they tried to make both os work on difreent laptops as same time so no luck

29-Nov-2007 PhilT: dinesh was badly advised - compatibility of different security methods for wifi varies a lot between devices and manufacturers, it isn't because it it Linux you can have the same issue with two XP or Vista PCs with different wireless cards in them.

Easycom: Yes different secuirty methods exist, however if he speaks to customer service they will be able to put him in touch with the correct department that can help.

23-Nov-2007 gilf: It says it has a custom version of Xandros Linux, are you able to get a linux command line, specifically I would want to use ssh to get access to a server etc. In other words is it a functional Linux machine or is it limited to the apps provided with no access to the underlying Linux software?

Easycom: I would presume it is limited to the applications provided, however I would recommending contacting the manufacturer directly regarding this as they may be able to help further.
