Easycom: The XP version features Acers eRecovery software which allows OS re-installation via partition and disc (using an external drive). The Linux version has software to repair and restore damaged installations, instructions are included.

Easycom: Unfourtunately, this model can't run office. Nor can it be downgraded to XP. However, it does come with equvalent applications.

Easycom: iTunes currently does not support the Linux operating system. However, there are third party modifications that allow iTunes to run on Linux, and it is also possible to run Wine (a windows emulator) on Linux and run iTunes in that. For guaranteed compatability and ease of use, I would recommend buying the XP version of the Aspire One instead.

26-Aug-2008 George: What will be the output resolution from a digital projector from the Aspire One and are there any speed or aspect ratio issues using converted PowerPoint files in Linux with a image intensive PowerPoint presentation?

Easycom: The linux version of the Aspire One outputs at 1024 x 600. It may be possible to alter this resolution by using updated display drivers, certainly more of a possibility on the XP version. You can import PowerPoint presentations into OpenOfficeImpress (installed on the Linux Aspire One as standard) and edit them - There will be no problem in running them.

14-Sep-2008 wanderer: I wish to use this to backup my pictures from a card, each evening on a 63 day safari in Africa; I don't want to delete anything from the card. So when I download say day 2, can I avoid a duplicate download of day 1? Or do I have to ditch the previous day 1 download on the netbook?

Easycom: Depending on what option you select, it will either overwrite the existing day1 photos on the netbook again with the same day1 photos on the card, or it will ignore the ones that already exist and only copy new photos (day2). In neither circumstance would duplicates be created - In order to get duplicates you would have to be copying them to a different folder each day.

peterh: Yes it's possible to dual-boot on an aspire one - You will need an external DVD drive to install XP.

peterh: There is a Napster client available for Linux that is said to run better on Linux than the windows version runs on Windows.

peterh: Yes, you can install Windows XP onto these, but you will need an external DVD drive.

I have a question… I plan to install WINE so I can install a few of my windows programmes… is there any benefit in my installing Ubuntu first or should I simply stay the pre-installed Linux Linpus Lite. peterh: There are no real benefits of running WINE under Ubuntu rather than Linpus. Some people prefer Ubuntu for other reasons (visual style) but the WINE performance will remain unchanged.

SteveF: Yes but it will be very slow. Its only got an Intel atom processor and is meant to be used for single tasks. If you are wanting to multi-task then a dual core processor is the way forward.

SteveF: Yes it would. This model doesn't come with vista but that operating system is very resource hungry and if installed it would cause the netbook to collapse and seize up under the strain! Linux is a very easy OS to use and is made for netbooks such as this acer one.
