Nero focuses on the three main disciplines: burning, backing up and video editing.

Version 12, the Platinum edition, allows the playback of Blu-rays (also Blu-ray 3D) and the ripping of unprotected Blu-ray discs in virtually every video file format. Furthermore, the user can now burn autorun CDs, DVDs or Blu-ray discs and can distribute large amounts of data efficiently on several CDs, DVDs or Blu-ray disks.

Nero 12 is also compatible with Windows 8. The interface of the tool has nothing in common with the metro look, but you can easily start a community tile for individual programs.

During the setup, Nero tries to ruin your browser with unnecessary tools. We recommend that you deselect the appropriate tick mark. AVCHD authoring and playback, as well as MPEG-4 and BD-AV formats are not supported in the test version.

Verdict: The Nero burning suite is equipped with all of the tools necessary to burn data and multimedia CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays.
