You need to register the insurance, once that's done it will be valid.

if the insurance is registered before the twelve months is up then it will be valid. If you buy it on the 29th and register it on the 1st, it won't count.

The cover is only valid in the UK. The claim process is through Compucover and is as any other insurance claim would be.
