Windows Vista Upgrade

If you buy any Laptop or PC from us running Windows XP Media Center Edition, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition or Windows XP Professional anytime between October 26th 2006 and March 15th 2007 you will receive a FREE Upgrade to Vista. And if you buy any computer with XP Home, you will receive a ½ price upgrade to Vista.

The last date to submit an upgrade is March 31st 2007. However, all computers must have been purchased no later than March 15th 2007.

Windows Vista is currently due for UK release on the 29th of January

What do I need to upgrade?

  • Date of purchase
  • Certificate of Authenticity (COA) number (14 digits) (The COA is a small, tamper-resistant label attached to the back of your PC or the bottom of your notebook)
  • PC Model and Model number (i.e. Acer Aspire 5600 series for the Aspire 5612WLMi)
  • PC serial number (normally found on the side or underneath of the laptop)
  • Receipt of purchase.

Make sure your Laptop meets the system requirements

You can check to see if your Laptop can run Windows Vista by downloading Microsoft’s Vista Upgrade Advisor

This small software tool will scan your computer and create an easy-to-understand report of all known system, device, and program compatibility issues, and recommend ways to resolve them. Upgrade Advisor can also help you choose the edition of Windows Vista that best fits the way you want to use your computer

Before you Upgrade

We highly recommend backing up data files (including Microsoft Office) on a storage device (DVDs, Memory Stick) before you begin the installation. Some of your software and peripherals may not be compatible with Windows Vista, check with the suppliers to make sure.

To receive your upgrade just follow these instructions

Please Note: there may be a postage or nominal charge for the Vista Upgrade.

Acer, Asus, Fujitsu Siemens, Lenovo, Samsung or Toshiba

The online form you need to fill in to receive your upgrade can be found here

  • On the form change the country to United Kingdom
  • Select “no” for the serialised Upgrade Redemption Form option
  • Click on the Windows Vista box to proceed to the next section
  • This section contains details of the information you will need to complete the form and the specification required to run Windows Vista.
  • Click OK at the bottom of this screen
  • You now need to select which type of Laptop you have - Acer, Asus (Asustek), Fujitsu Siemens Computers GmbH, Lenovo or Toshiba
  • Then follow the on screen prompts

Sony

The online form you need to fill in to receive your upgrade can be found here

  • Click “New: Express Upgrade to Windows Vista” on the left hand menu
  • Select the appropriate version of Windows you are upgrading
  • Change the country to United Kingdom
  • Click on the Windows Vista box
  • Then follow the on screen prompts

Hewlett Packard

The online form you need to fill in to receive your upgrade can be found here

  • Click “Click here to order your Windows Vista Upgrade now”
  • Click Continue to ModusLink - Order HP Windows Express Upgrade Kit
  • Change the country to United Kingdom
  • Click on the Windows Vista box
  • This section contains details of the information you will need to complete the form and the specification required to run Windows Vista.
  • Click OK at the bottom of this screen
  • Select Notebook PC
  • Then choose the model you have purchased
  • Then follow the on screen prompts

PLEASE NOTE - Not all laptops are eligible for the Vista Upgrade. We recommend you contact the manufacturer for a definite answer on each specific model.

The computer must have the Windows Capable Sticker on it and be bought between 26/10/06 - 15/03/07

Acer Aspire 1640, Aspire 3020, Aspire 5020, Aspire 9500, Ferrari 4000, TravelMate 3000, TravelMate 4060, and TravelMate 4400 are Windows Vista Capable but are not currently included in the Acer Express Upgrade to Windows Vista program. Acer will post the updated BIOS, drivers, utilities, and application programs for these models on the Acer Service Website in early March.

Any ASUS notebook/ PC/ DVA Center purchased between October 26th, 2006 and March 15th, 2007 is eligible for the Express Windows Vista Upgrade Program. (As long as it has the Windows Capable sticker on it)

If you purchase select models of a new HP or Compaq notebook or desktop system between October 26, 2006 and March 15, 2007, you may be eligible for an upgrade from your existing Microsoft Windows XP operating system to the new Windows Vista operating system. This upgrade will be available after Microsoft launches Windows Vista, currently scheduled for early 2007.
