Question from Boom: Asked on 29/01/2009 This machine sounds perfect for me but only if it has PIM software that will synch with my Nokia N95 in the way that MS Outlook does. I'm talking primarily about Calender, Tasks and Notes. Is this possible?

Answer from SteveF: Answered on 30/01/2009
You'd need to contact Nokia or Acer on that one to check compatibility with the machine. I also have a n95 and know what you're referring to but there's no info on compatibility unfortunately.

If you want to use Microsoft products you'll need to run Windows, if you are happy using open source programs and only saving in common formats then this would be fine for everything.

Question from oisin: Asked on 03/12/2008 you say you need a external cd drive to install windows but if you had windows on a usb key would you be able to boot from that and install windows

Question from Rich Dee: Asked on 03/12/2008 I have never owned a Linux machine before but have heard virus' are rare, can you advise whether a security product such as Norton is required - thanks

We would always recommend you put an anti virus on your laptop before going on the internet. Even the supposedly infallible Leopard OS on Macs has now got a couple of virus's written for it.

Question from Neal: Asked on 03/12/2008 I'm thinking of buying this netbook to enable me to carry out work when travelling between by home office and work. I was thinking of also buying a portable hard drive, but notice that one model comes with 120GB. Can this netbook be used as a portable hard drive by connecting it to my home and work pc's?

You can connect them on a local area network but that can be a little too complicated for easily transferring data. I would but an external hard drive separately.

Question from jane: Asked on 11/09/2008 can autocat, 3d sketch up and photoshop be used on this model

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 12/09/2008
No, these machines (as with all of the mini laptops out there) are only really suitable for internet/e-mail/office applications. Anything as complex as autocad would struggle.

This Linux Aspire One has no trouble with playing Flash content on websites. You can not install MSN Messenger on it, but it comes with a chat client that supports many networks, including MSN - so you can sign in and chat as you would normally on MSN.

Question from Clueless: Asked on 27/08/2008 What software would I use/need to purchase to wordprocess, powerpoint, spreadsheet etc with the Linux OS? Can I use OpenOffice? or do I need Microsoft???

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 27/08/2008
OpenOffice is installed as standard on the linux Aspire One - Microsoft Office is not compatible with Linux.

Question from Paul: Asked on 26/08/2008 In a previous answer you stated "the memory on this model can only be increased using external devices". However, several sites list the Aspire One has having an SDHC card slot, allowing the storage to be expanded by up to 32GB to a total of 40GB. Is this correct?

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 27/08/2008
Yes using flash memory you can upgrade the storage space.

Please contact HP for an answer on that.

Question from Carl: Asked on 21/08/2008 I notice the machine has no Bluetooth. Will it support a USB Bluetooth device? Also, as I travel extensively, is the wireless device suitable for various airports around the world? Thanks

Yes this machine supports Bluetooth USB dongles, and the wireless is compatible with 802.11b/g networks (the global standard for wireless networking) so you won't have a problem.

Question from lovely: Asked on 18/08/2008 Can I play DVDs and CDs with this laptop?

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 18/08/2008
It has no optical drive so no CD or DVD playback. You can buy an external drive to plug in via USB which will do the job though.

Question from Graham: Asked on 13/08/2008 Can the 8gb memory be expanded apart from the USB slots ?

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 13/08/2008
Unfourtunately, the memory on this model can only be increased using external devices. However, external devices in many ways are safer than a hard drive because they have their own password and mean that you won't loose your files if your laptop is stolen.
You can get a 160Gb external hard drive from us for only £34.97

Question from Ben: Asked on 07/08/2008 The obvious question- will this run windows Xp and are drivers available/included.

Question from colum: Asked on 07/08/2008 Looking at the title and the tech spec I'm a little confused. does this model come with 512mb or 1gb ram?

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 13/08/2008
This model comes with 512mb of ram, sorry for the confusion.

Question from SydO: Asked on 05/08/2008 I'm confused. I was about to order an ACER ASPIRE ONE A110L. You list as an "essential extra" the 3G mobile broadband USB modem - E220. However, the spec for the E220 says it needs 50MB hard disk space and Windows 2000, XP, Vista or Mac OSX operating system. This is not Linux and 8 Gb flash!! How do I go (a) simple wireless broadband (b) mobile broadband with this machine please?

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 06/08/2008
The E200 modem does work with this machine as it is compatible with Linux.

Question from madhatter: Asked on 03/08/2008 You got conflicting features for the Aspire one. The Product ID is for a 512MB Memory device. In the Featured (and in description but this seems to be fixed) youre describing 1GB RAM.

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 13/08/2008
Sorry, the spec should be fixed now. It does come with 512 MB of ram and not 1GB.

Question from John: Asked on 30/07/2008 I've read conflicting info ( elsewhere ) about Linux and mobile broadband 3G modems: can they be used with Linux or must I have Windows? Also, with the Acer two year extended warranty you get a mouse and bag for a larger laptop: can they do a bag that fits this wee baby? Thanks

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 31/07/2008
It's definitely possible to use 3G broadband on Linux, as for the bag and mouse, they would have to be bought separetely as there is no bundle for a bag to fit a laptop this size.
