Easycom: It's definitely possible to use 3G broadband on Linux, as for the bag and mouse, they would have to be bought separetely as there is no bundle for a bag to fit a laptop this size.

5-Aug-2008 SydO: I'm confused. I was about to order an ACER ASPIRE ONE A110L. You list as an "essential extra" the 3G mobile broadband USB modem - E220. However, the spec for the E220 says it needs 50MB hard disk space and Windows 2000, XP, Vista or Mac OSX operating system. This is not Linux and 8 Gb flash!! How do I go (a) simple wireless broadband (b) mobile broadband with this machine please?

Easycom: The E200 modem does work with this machine as it is compatible with Linux.

Easycom: Yes it will run XP, the drivers are available but not included. Be aware you will need an external DVD drive to install from.

However, external devices in many ways are safer than a hard drive because they have their own password and mean that you won't loose your files if your laptop is stolen. Easycom: Yes this machine supports Bluetooth USB dongles, and the wireless is compatible with 802.11b/g networks (the global standard for wireless networking) so you won't have a problem.

Easycom: OpenOffice is installed as standard on the linux Aspire One - Microsoft Office is not compatible with Linux.

Easycom: This Linux Aspire One has no trouble with playing Flash content on websites. You can not install MSN Messenger on it, but it comes with a chat client that supports many networks, including MSN - so you can sign in and chat as you would normally on MSN.

SteveF: You can connect them on a local area network but that can be a little too complicated for easily transferring data. I would but an external hard drive separately.

SteveF: We would always recommend you put an anti virus on your laptop before going on the internet. Even the supposedly infallible Leopard OS on Macs has now got a couple of virus's written for it.

SteveF: Yes, it works the same as a disc so as long as you had the installation program on the memory stick then it would be fine.

Matt: If you want to use Microsoft products you'll need to run Windows, if you are happy using open source programs and only saving in common formats then this would be fine for everything.

3-Aug-2008 madhatter: You got conflicting features for the Aspire one. The Product ID is for a 512MB Memory device. In the Featured (and in description but this seems to be fixed) youre describing 1GB RAM.

Easycom: Sorry, the spec should be fixed now. It does come with 512 MB of ram and not 1GB.

Easycom: It has no optical drive so no CD or DVD playback. You can buy an external drive to plug in via USB which will do the job though.

Easycom: Yes using flash memory you can upgrade the storage space.

Easycom: No, these machines (as with all of the mini laptops out there) are only really suitable for internet/e-mail/office applications. Anything as complex as autocad would struggle.
